Meet the writer
Passionately crafting plant stories that spark curiosity and connection
Hi, I'm Amalia
Ngāti Kahungunu
I'm the writer behind Leaf Letters, lovingly crafting plant stories to inspire and delight. I’m that friend on a hike who stops every five metres to snap a photo of a neat leaf or flower. I’ll immediately google it, fall into a Wikipedia rabbit hole, and start spouting fun facts to anyone nearby.
Don’t worry, when I write for your audience, the research goes far deeper than Wikipedia, and the storytelling is a lot more curated. I craft engaging, thoughtful stories tailored to your readers, connecting them to the natural world in ways that spark curiosity, wonder, and care.
I hold a science degree, so a curious mind and rigorous research come naturally. Every story I tell is grounded in credible sources, properly cited, and shaped into language that feels fresh, welcoming, and accessible. I've written for botanic gardens and understand how to strike that all-important balance: scientific accuracy, inclusive language, and storytelling that honours the plants, places, and communities you represent.
I care deeply about inclusivity and do my best to share stories that look beyond colonial narratives, acknowledging and celebrating the deep relationships Indigenous peoples have with the land and its plants.
You'll find me in Wellington, New Zealand, admiring plants, writing in the sun, spending time with friends, or hanging out with my wife and our very beloved old-lady cat, Tūī Girl.
Let’s grow some beautiful stories together.
